My first couple of groups of girls were amazing, i have just finished up working with a group of 15 10 year olds, who were at camp for an introductory program, mostly aimed at girls who have never been to resident camp before. That age group is really tiring but sooo much fun. They are great to be around and really put things back into perspective without even realising it. Our trip into the apostle islands was unreal, even with the persistent black bear we had poking around the camp site.
About a week and a half ago, I injured my knee and have been in to hospital a couple of times for check ups and MRIs. Not really in line with my summer plans, but hey, as camp teaches you, flexibility is the key. I am starting to heal now, but we are in the kind of scary process of working out whether or not i will be able to participate in our big end of season canoe trip. My fingers are crossed but either way, im sure it will work out. We have also been spending alot of time working on leadership and morale with our staff, i have found it alot of fun and quite eye opening.
Scarily, we are starting to think about the end of summer, we only have just over 3 working weeks left, but at the same time are in peak camper numbers right now. Its kind of hard to get my head around, but staff are already realising that summer camp doesnt last forever. At least the memories do. Thats all for today. I am currently on time off, we have had a little bit of time to refresh before we start, most of the staff either spent thier time in ashland, duluth, or stayed headed home if they didnt live too far away. it was so nice to put our "weekend off" clothes on and relax.
We will start off the summer kind of short staffed, but have chosen to just kick on with who we have. We have been a little unlucky in staffing, but the staff we do have right now have been amazing in picking up how camp runs and what goes on.it should be fine, just a bit more work between a few more people. My first trip this summer will be down to the apostle islands, just west of bayfield. I will have a co counselor and a nice small group of kids so i cant wait! As trip counselor, we have been reviewing our trip program progression in general, and are so excited to be doing the trips were doing this year, and also have a tonne of ideas and locations for new trips next year.
We also just recently moved into the platform tents, it is so nice to be back in those. They are so big and cool at night, which is awesome after how hot it is here during the days.
Well its back to work at 6pm so until i write more,
ErinErin Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05509825203928693083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2468627635617426755.post-7125793992691085722007-06-03T19:09:00.001-07:002007-06-05T19:44:41.477-07:00Finally Here!Phew! Plane ride is over! and i am finally back at camp!! i have been so excited to come back, counting down the days since 130 to go. Camp Northwoods is an amazing place to be, it is pretty rustic but it really feels like home so easily. Me and a few other counselors arrived at camp late last night, and spent today writing list upon list of things that need to be done before we host a number of girl scout troops who will be here at various times until the start of next week. It is a bit daunting thinking of everything that we have to do, but there are another few counselors coming tomorrow, i am sure we will be fine :) I will defintely give a better description of camp when i have a little more time and a little less jet lag, so until then, happy travels :)Erin Vhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05509825203928693083noreply@blogger.com
